About Merrow: History

In 1838, Joseph M. Merrow and son founded one of the first knitting mills in America. Here, the Merrow Company developed knitting machines which automated the process for seaming and edge finishing a variety of knit garments including blouses, hosiery, underwear, sweaters and gloves.

Other Merrow contributions followed: the world's first crochet machine, the first shell stitiching machine and the first butted seaming machine for continuous processing of textile fabrics.

The overedge stitch the company pioneered is known throughout the commercial sewing industry as “Merrowing”. Today, thanks to their solid performance, Merrow machines are mainstays in the production lines of the world’s top textile producers.

On June 24th 2004, Rob Merrow and Charlie Merrow acquired the Merrow Machine Company, renaming it the Merrow Sewing Machine Company

The Merrow Sewing Machine Company is now operated by the Merrow Family

Used in more than 100 countries worldwide, with more than 250,000 machines operational, Merrow is leveraging its remarkable success as a worldwide brand, quickly becoming one of the most respected companies in the textile trade
